General Information

Silicon dioxide dissolves in water, like sugar in tea, but only at high temperature and pressure. Then, when the temperature or pressure drops, the solution becomes saturated, so quartz crystals form. Clear rock crystal quartz is found in the U.S., Brazil, Russia and Madagascar. Rock crystal often has inclusions of other minerals, and these inclusions sometimes produce popular sub-varieties of ornamental stone.
