Candles are a staple item in any magical tool kit. They are used to amplify and release energy. Candle magic is driven by the element of fire, which represents transformation. Fire changes everything it interacts with. This transformation energy is what you are channelling, encouraging and accelerating changes in your life.

Step 1: Manifest your intent. Think of what you want to bring into your life. Be specific, realistic, positive and kind. Clarify your intention in a single sentence

Step 2: Create your spell. The most basic candle magic spell is to simply visualise your goal, say a sentence and light the candle to release the energy. Choose the candle colour carefully. Pick the one that corresponds with the nature of your goal. You can also place relevant herbs and crystals around your candle to amplify the spell.

Step 3: Dress the candle. This is important as you want to forge a link between you, the candle and your goal. Rub your candle with oil (like almond, coconut, jojoba). Rub the candle from top to bottom to draw things to you and from bottom to top to send things away. As you rub the candle with oil focus your goal and mentally pour your intent into the candle. Continue to dress the candle for a couple of minutes until you feel its charge. You can scratch names, numbers or symbols into the wax if it is relevant to the spell.

Step 4: Take a few deep breaths, release tension and visualise your worries or thoughts drifting away, clear your mind. Visualise your goal and when you have a clear mental picture, repeat your chant/song/poem and state your intention out loud. When you feel almost full of your goals energy and positive vibes, light the candle. Focus on the candle's aura and visualise it getting bigger until it fills the room. Then imagine it expanding beyond the room into the universe beaming out and sending a signal to bring your intention. Hold this vision in your mind and as the energy fades blow out your candle.
